☕ Quiz: are you ready for brunch in Malaga?
5 quick questions about breakfast Malaga-style and the spots in this guide. You get the answer and a link to the right section after each question.
Type "brunch" into Google Maps in Malaga and you get dozens of cafés, many of which actually only serve breakfast until 11:00. And when you turn up at 13:00 on a Sunday, you often find out the kitchen closes in half an hour.
This guide brings together 10 places for brunch in Malaga, sorted by neighbourhood (Centre, Soho, Malagueta), with their opening hours day by day. You can see straight away which ones are open on Sundays, which ones serve in the afternoon and where to go without a booking.
Every address and every opening time was checked in September 2026 on the official websites and listings of each place. I removed the cafés that have since closed from the previous version of this guide. I also tell you which places to avoid depending on what time you arrive.
💡 Key takeaway: for a proper brunch in the historic centre, Brunchit (opposite the Roman theatre, daily until 16:00, no booking needed) is the safe bet. For a late brunch, Byoko serves all day until 21:30. And near the beach, La Galga is the place to go in La Malagueta. Choose by time and neighbourhood, not by popularity.
🟢 Which brunch spots are open now?
Checking Malaga time…
Opening hours taken from official websites and listings in September 2026. They can change on public holidays and during Holy Week or the Feria: check before you go.
🔎 How I chose these 10 brunch spots
A place only makes this list if it serves a real brunch (eggs, breads, savoury and sweet dishes, not just a tostada) and if its address and opening hours are confirmed by an official or recent source.
- Location: within walking distance of the historic centre, Soho or La Malagueta beach.
- Opening hours: open at least at the weekend, with public, verifiable opening times.
- Menu: savoury and sweet choices, and at least one vegetarian option.
- Reliability: still open for business in September 2026.
The opening hours come from each place's website and from listings updated in 2026. Where two sources disagreed, I say so. I don't give marks out of 5: I'd rather give you concrete criteria (opening hours, budget, atmosphere) than an arbitrary ranking.
Who this guide is not for: if you're looking for an all-you-can-eat hotel brunch buffet or a seafront brunch in Pedregalejo, this selection isn't the right one. It focuses on cafés in the centre and the streets just around it.

🥐 Brunch or desayuno: how people eat in the morning in Malaga
In Malaga, brunch is a recent import: the real local ritual is the desayuno, a tostada with a coffee at the bar between 9:00 and 11:00. English-style brunch (eggs Benedict, pancakes, avocado toast) settled in the centre and in Soho with the arrival of specialty coffee shops.
So you are not caught out:
- The tostada malagueña: toasted bread, grated tomato and olive oil, sometimes with ham. It is the go-to breakfast, and it costs a few euros.
- Coffee is ordered Malaga-style: a solo (espresso), a mitad (half coffee, half milk), a nube (almost all milk). The name depends on how much milk goes in.
- Mealtimes are later: lunch is around 14:00, so brunch tends to be between 10:00 and 13:30.
- Many brunch spots close in the afternoon: the kitchen closes around 15:30 at several places on this list.
- Sunday is still brunch day: all our spots are open on Sundays.
🏛️ Brunch in Malaga city centre: the 6 best spots in the historic centre
The historic centre has most of Malaga's brunch spots, between Plaza de la Merced, Calle Larios and Atarazanas market. You can do everything on foot, and carry on to the Picasso Museum or the Alcazaba afterwards.
1. Brunchit Alcazabilla, the safe bet opposite the Roman theatre
- Ideal for: a first brunch in Malaga, groups, Sunday without a booking

Artisan sourdough, seasonal produce, sweet and savoury dishes: the Calle Alcazabilla branch sits on a corner opposite the Roman theatre, a short walk from Plaza de la Merced. Brunchit doesn't take bookings: you just turn up when you like. The brand has four other addresses in Malaga, handy if the first one is full: Soho (Calle Trinidad Grund, 6), Museo Picasso (Calle San Agustín, 7), Carretería (Calle Carretería, 46) and Mercado (Calle Alhóndiga, 2).
Pros: open 7 days a week, central location, several back-up addresses.

- Ideal for: a late brunch, fans of organic and local produce

Byoko is the only place on this list where brunch is served all day, until 21:30. 40 metres from Calle Larios, Byoko Strachan is the first branch of this small Malaga chain focused on organic and local food: baked eggs, bowls, smoothies, organic bread and specialty coffee. No bookings. There is a second branch on Plaza de la Merced (no. 22); check its opening hours there.
Pros: non-stop brunch, ideal if you get up late or arrive at the end of the day.
Cons: no bookings, fills up quickly at the weekend.
Skip it if: you want the feel of a traditional Spanish café.
3. Café con Libros, the book café on Plaza de la Merced
- Ideal for: a terrace on the square, readers, travellers with a dog

🏖️ Brunch in La Malagueta: 2 spots near the beach

🏆 My honest take on brunch in Malaga
If you only have one brunch in Malaga, go to Brunchit Alcazabilla one morning before 10:30: the menu is designed for it, the location opposite the Roman theatre is unbeatable, and you have four other back-up addresses if it's full. If you get up late or arrive at the end of the day, Byoko is the only real option.
For a quieter time, Soho and La Malagueta are worth the trip: Santa Coffee Soho for the coffee, La Galga for a carefully made brunch before the beach. And if you want to live the morning Malaga-style, have a tostada with tomato and a mitad in a neighbourhood bar: that's Malaga too.
⭐ My recommendation: Brunchit Alcazabilla for a first brunch in Malaga (daily 8:30 – 16:00, no booking needed), and Byoko if you're having brunch after 16:00.
